DUBAI


Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي‎ "Dubai Tower") is a supertall skyscraper under construction in the Downtown Burj Dubai district of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure ever built, despite being incomplete. Construction began on 21 September 2004, and the tower is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy by September 2009.[1][2]

The building is part of the 2 km2 (0.8 sq mi) development called "Downtown Burj Dubai" at the "First Interchange" along Sheikh Zayed Road at Financial Centre Road (previously known as Doha Street). The tower's architect is Adrian Smith who worked with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) until 2006.[6][7] The architecture and engineering firm SOM is in charge of the project.[6] The primary builders are Samsung Engineering & Construction and Besix along with Arabtec.[8] Turner Construction Company was chosen as the construction manager.[9]

The total budget for the Burj Dubai project is about US$4.1 billion and for the entire new 'Downtown Dubai', US$20 billion[10] Mohamed Ali Alabbar, the CEO of Emaar Properties, speaking at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat 8th World Congress, said that the price of office space at Burj Dubai had reached $4,000 per sq ft (over $43,000 per sq m) and that the Armani Residences, also in Burj Dubai, were selling for US$3,500 per sq ft (over $37,500 per sq m).[

GRAND HYATT HOTEL U/C

ISLAMABAD: Underlining the steps being taken by the government to leverage the true tourism potential of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that government is encouraging the hotel industry in Pakistan to ease out the residential problems of tourists, investors and other visitors.

The Prime Minister was chairing a meeting about the establishment of Grand Hyatt Islamabad by a private sector company here on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan due to its landscape, historical and cultural background has great tourism potential. Also it has places like Taxilla, Takht Bai, Punja Sahib, Nankana Sahib which are the cradles of Buddist and Sikh civilizations.

However, due to lack of adequate facilities the religious tourism potential remains under utilized. The government is trying to package the facilities for the comfort of all kinds of tourists, said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan due to its geographical location is the natural hub for Western and Central Asian Countries. He said as a result of the increased interest of investors in Pakistan also, there is acute shortage of hotel rooms and the problem will be further intensified after the construction of new Islamabad Airport and the initiation of their services to Islamabad by more Airlines. The government, therefore, will facilitate the construction of hotels in Islamabad, said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister was informed that B&P Group is coordinating the Grand Hayyat hotel, Islamabad which will be the first Grand Hyall, hotel of Pakistan. The construction of this hotel, which will be located near convention Centre, Islamabad will be initiated in September this year and it will be completed in three years.
